oycp academic vision

Our priority at OYCP is to provide an educational climate that promotes respect, responsibility and work ethic. We believe all our students deserve a quality education that includes a solid foundation of required classes, but also recognizes that students have individual needs. We strive to provide a comprehensive secondary school experience with a wide range of elective classes that augment required courses.

An additional 2 credits may be earned through extra credit work for a maximum of 10 high school credits. (credits offered may be lowered depending on current credits achieved upon arrival to OYCP).

OYCP is not a “graduate early” program. We will not advance you ahead of your cohort.

A student’s grade will be based on academic achievement, which may include performance objectives.

A = 4 grade points / 94%-100%

B = 3 grade points / 88%-93%

C = 2 grade points / 80%-87%

Credits are awarded depending on/but not limited to:

– Time Spent

– Material Covered

– Knowledge Gained

– Passing all tests at 80% or greater

Any student receiving below 80% or behind in his/her work will be required to attend tutorial classes until their grades and work are acceptable.

Students may apply credits earned from other schools towards their diploma if those credits meet certain requirements. A school must accept credits earned in standard Oregon schools and from standard secondary schools from other states. A school must also accept credits from private, alternative and non-standard schools if the Northwest Accreditation Commission and affiliates accredit the school. Home school credits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Credits earned at Oregon Challenge High School will be mailed or electronically sent to the resident home high schools upon request.

Students leaving the program before graduation will not receive any credits.
