Greetings class 60 applicants and families. 08/06/2020
I am David Sutterfield, RPM supervisor.
Last week, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) in coordination with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) updated the Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance to include a set of metrics for all schools in Oregon to meet in order for them to successfully reopen to in-person instruction. These metrics center on the level of disease circulation rates in the communities and the positivity rate for Oregon. Given that the current rates in both metrics exceed the thresholds established by ODE and OHA, the decision was made yesterday by OYCP and state leadership to postpone our September start date until at least January 2021. This decision was not taken lightly, returning to in-person instruction is one of OYCP’s highest priorities, and so is providing safety for our students, staff and families. Schools not only provide the education that Oregon’s children need to succeed, but schools also provide social/emotional growth and support. The staff and leadership at OYCP are committed to providing educational opportunities to all our communities across the state. We are offering all selected and invited applicants to join our next class.
Our next class will tentatively be a full 22-week class with the opportunity to earn 8-10 credits in just 5 months. If you are looking for a full OYCP experience, this class will offer that to you.
There are only a couple of items that we will need as the next class nears. You must maintain your eligibility criteria, you will need to confirm that your mentor is still willing to mentor you and you will need to provide us an up-dated transcript from your school.
Please understand that these times are uncertain, plans can and do change and that new guidance from ODE and OHA regarding COVID-19 restrictions can impact the start date of future classes.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during these uncertain times.
